goals
General objective:
- TRAIN HIGHLY QUALIFIED DOCTOR'S DEGREE SCIENTISTS WITH THE CAPACITY TO FACE AND SOLVE GEOLOGICAL PROBLEMS, IN AN INTERDISCIPLINARY FIELD, BOTH IN THE ACADEMY AND IN A PROFESSIONAL SETTING
Specific objectives:
- DEVELOP IN THE STUDENT A SOLID AND UP-TO-DATE BODY OF KNOWLEDGE IN THE AREA OF GEOLOGY, IN GENERAL, AND IN THAT OF THEIR SPECIALIZATION, IN PARTICULAR.
- TRAIN A RESEARCHER ABLE TO CARRY OUT A HIGH LEVEL INVESTIGATION IN THE FIELD OF GEOLOGY, KEEPING UP-TO-DATE ON THE TOPICS OF HIS SPECIALTY.

Applicant Profile
The applicant for the Doctorate program in Geological Sciences must have obtained a Bachelor's or Master's degree in the area of Geology, obtained in Chilean universities or equivalent degrees in foreign universities. The applicant could have completed his undergraduate or graduate degree in other areas related to earth sciences and engineering (Geophysics, Oceanography, Geography and Engineering) and in exceptional cases in other basic sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Mathematics).
The applicant must possess analytical and creative skills for posing, analyzing and solving scientific questions and problems related to the various areas of geological sciences. You must demonstrate a special interest and motivation for scientific research. In addition, the applicant must possess solid geological knowledge and have skills and abilities in experimental, analytical and numerical / computational methods applied to geological sciences. Finally, you must have the ability to read and write specialized literature in the English language.
Graduate profile
The program will provide the graduate with the necessary tools to be able to perform as a researcher, independently and effectively. It is expected that the graduate, in addition to having a solid knowledge of the most advanced topics and methodologies in their area of specialization, is in possession of the following competencies:
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge in the concepts and methodologies of Geological Sciences corresponding to their specialty.
- Manage methodological tools that allow solving problems, detecting needs and opportunities inherent to their field of specialization.
- Formulate and manage, autonomously, research projects in the field of their specialty.
- Carry out original scientific research in the field of their specialty, showing an attitude of search and permanent updating in their discipline.
- Work as a team with scientists of their specialty and related specialties, national or foreign, in the academic or other fields.
- Communicate and efficiently disseminate its research and results in mainstream magazines in specialized circles and in the social community in which it is inserted.
- Critically evaluate own and peer scientific work, arguing their position based on scientific and ethical criteria.
