The Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine was created in 1989, in order to promote the training of independent and highly qualified researchers in the biomedical area. This program is based on the recognition that modern medicine depends directly on the advancement of knowledge in basic disciplines such as Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neurosciences, Immunology, Microbiology, Physiology, Pharmacology, among others. All these disciplines have the support of highly qualified research lines, laboratories and researchers.
Applicant Profile
Those who meet the following requirements may apply to the program:
1.- They are in possession of a bachelor's or master's degree
2.- They accredit prior training according to the purposes and requirements of the program.

Graduate profile
The graduate is able to:
1.- Understand the mechanisms of diseases and propose therapeutic targets and / or molecules that lead to the development of new drugs, using an interdisciplinary approach.
2.- Play a leadership role in research, development and innovation in biomedicine; demonstrating independence, rigor, scientific discipline, critical spirit and creativity.
3.- Direct and carry out original scientific research, the results of which constitute a substantial contribution to biomedicine, contributing to the social, economic and cultural development of the country.
4.- Participate in the development and promotion of public policies in biomedicine, with academic impact and in the management and production of technology transfer.
5.- Respect the ethical and normative principles of scientific endeavor, in accordance with the mission of the University of Chile and its social and democratic commitment.
