goals
The objective of the Program is to train doctors and graduates in disciplines related to Medicine, who opt for advanced studies with a strong emphasis on biomedical scientific research, from that oriented to the disease or the patient to research in preventive medicine and public health. The Program will enable students to join the search and application of new knowledge in Medicine through scientific training at a higher level, which implies the acquisition of advanced knowledge, in a critical and dynamic context, and rigorous training in the scientific method, both in its theoretical bases and in the practical and methodological aspects (Art. 3 ° PDCM Regulation). In this way, the PDCM will contribute to the development of Medical Sciences in Chile, with the idea of generating a supply of researchers with a solid training for Schools of Medicine and research institutes.
Applicant Profile
Graduates in Medicine and disciplines related to Medicine as well as academics who aspire to the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences can apply for their scientific improvement and academic development. They must: Accredit possession of the Bachelor's Degree and / or Master's Degree in Medicine, or other disciplines of the biomedical and / or health sciences.
Demonstrate vocation and aptitude for a scientific career linked to Medicine and suitability to meet the requirements of the Program.
Graduate profile
The graduate will be able to carry out original and independent scientific research oriented to the disease, especially studying its etiopathogenic elements, and oriented to the patient, critically studying the application of new biomedical knowledge to the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of diseases. At the end of the PhD Program, the graduate is expected to be able to:
Develop avant-garde translational and clinical research, which allows you to innovate in the development of new strategies for the study of the mechanisms, detection, treatment or prevention of diseases.
Lead research teams that allow the development of rigorous and competitive research, obtaining funding for their research; Integrate the knowledge of basic and applied sciences to the clinical development of the health sciences; Practice teaching, especially in the direction of undergraduate and postgraduate students' theses during their research training; Conceptualize and report your original research and achievements in a competitive way to satisfy peer review and evaluation and impart knowledge to audiences outside of translational research in medical sciences; Behaving in accordance with sound ethical principles when investigating.
