Mónica was part of this Council between 2004 and 2008 in her capacity as Rector of the Catholic University of Temuco, and she was also the first woman to join this collegiate body. During this period, he stood out for his closeness, warmth and for his commitment to human rights, democracy, the common good and the development of Chile.
Her commitment to education, and in particular to university education, we saw early in the Project "University: Build Country", which Mónica led and coordinated between 2001 and 2006 in order to expand the concept and practice of Social Responsibility in the Chilean university system. One of the main achievements was the incorporation of this dimension in the curriculum of most CRUCH universities.
The values and principles of this project also describe those fundamental aspects that motivated Mónica: dignity of the person; Liberty; citizenship, democracy and participation; sociability and solidarity for coexistence; common good and social equity; sustainable development and environment; acceptance and appreciation of diversity; commitment to the truth; integrity; excellence; and interdependence and interdisciplinarity.
Today, more than ever, we honor his legacy and value his valuable contribution to higher education and, especially, to the universities of the Council of Rectors.
