goals
The program seeks to develop the capacity for theoretical reflection and original and independent research in the area of its competence at a level of international demand.
The basis is constituted by the in-depth study of relevant problems and doctrines in aesthetics and art theory, starting from a philosophical core and with an interdisciplinary orientation. The theoretical approach to the problems of the history of the arts and the attention to questions concerning Chilean and Latin American art are also encouraged.
Applicant Profile
The candidate must be in possession of an academic degree of Bachelor or Master in the areas of Philosophy, Social Sciences, Arts or related disciplines. The degree must have been awarded by recognized universities in Chile or abroad. In case of having academic degrees of foreign origin, these must be equivalent to those mentioned above. In addition, you must provide a formal background or take an exam to prove the instrumental command of a foreign language (English, French or German), present a preliminary thesis project and attend an interview with the Academic Committee. The Committee may eventually require an admission exam or define leveling curricular activities. Only those preliminary thesis projects approved by the Committee will have the possibility to proceed to the interview stage.
Graduate profile
The graduation profile corresponds to a researcher of excellence with high productivity, a solid philosophical base, endowed with up-to-date knowledge in his area of study, capable of contributing and communicating original proposals and content to the development of the discipline of aesthetics and / or beauty. art theory, to establish dialogue with their peers in the international context and, based on these competences, to exercise high-level teaching. To the critical understanding of the philosophical, and more generally theoretical, bases of their study objects and the contextual elements that specify these objects, the graduate adds an ability to use the strategies and methodologies with which they are approached, and relevant skills for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary work. This fact allows the originality of the research that is part of this study program to address emerging themes and logics that allow them to be linked to cutting-edge debates in the international context.
