goals
• General objective
The main objective of the Doctorate in Philosophy program taught by the PUCV Institute of Philosophy is to train researchers of excellence in the discipline, who contribute fruitfully to its development in higher education institutions and / or research centers.
Specific objectives
- Deliver up-to-date and specialized training in the philosophical topics addressed in the program's study plan.
- Stimulate and develop analytical and critical capacities that allow a detailed and systematic study of philosophical problems to be carried out.
- Deliver the methodological tools required for excellence in research activity.
Applicant Profile
The student who enters the program has the degree — obtained in Chile or abroad — of Bachelor or Bachelor of Philosophy, or Master of Philosophy in the event that his initial undergraduate training is in another area. The student has experience and familiarity with research and academic writing. They also have knowledge of a second language appropriate for investigative work. The student is able to define an area of interest within the framework of philosophical disciplines that allows him to formulate a theme for his doctoral thesis research.
Graduate profile
The Doctorate in Philosophy is a postgraduate program whose purpose is to train people who have a domain of excellence in the discipline both in the historical and systematic order, as well as autonomy and originality in research. Distinctive features of the above are the capacity for wonder, analysis, critical spirit and an attitude of permanent questioning, in accordance with the institution's stamp of value.
Likewise, the program has a guideline whose articulating core is the Western philosophical tradition with an emphasis on ethical and metaphysical thought. Therefore, the person who graduated from the Doctorate understands and evaluates, with a domain of excellence, the progress of ideas and the fundamental problems of Western philosophy.

1. Understand and evaluate with a domain of excellence the metaphysical structure of philosophy.
2. Understand and evaluate with a domain of excellence the philosophical reflection regarding human praxis.
3. Develop a systematic, autonomous, original and relevant reflection documented in academic texts.
4. Express systematic and original ideas clearly and precisely.
