goals
Study the origin, maintenance and evolution of biological systems and their relationship with the environment. Our study models range from individuals to communities and in both terrestrial and aquatic environments. We use theoretical, field, experimental and statistical approaches to address questions about the behavior of different systems. The multiple lines of research offer different biological models, levels of organization and modes of approach. There is also an important integration between the research lines of our mention. At the same time, the interaction between basic and applied research is promoted in order to promote the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable management, facing the challenges that are produced by the relationship between human activity and ecosystems, in a context of global change.
Applicant Profile
It must be a student who seeks to obtain advanced training oriented to biological research, through which the student acquires competencies, deepens and expands knowledge, capacities and abilities required for high-level research in biology limited to one of the four established mentions: Cellular and Molecular Biology, Physiological Sciences, Ecology and Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. In addition, they must be in possession of the academic degree of bachelor or master, awarded by Chilean universities. In case of having academic degrees of foreign origin, these must be equivalent to those mentioned.
Graduate profile
To train PhDs in biological sciences capable of responding to the demands of today's society, a competency profile and a curriculum focused on learning is an opportunity for PhD students to achieve autonomy and excellence as current and future researchers.
