goals

The Program is academic in nature, with the aim of training in the country human resources doctorates in aquaculture, with a solid training applied to aquaculture, trained to join the private or state sectors, and to participate in development, innovation and diversification of aquaculture

Applicant Profile

Chileans and foreigners who are in possession of an academic degree of Bachelor or Master, in the field of disciplines proper or related to this Program, may apply to the Program.

Graduate profile

The Doctor in Aquaculture will be able to carry out scientific research and technological innovation of international quality. His training will allow him to efficiently insert himself in research and / or academic institutions, private companies or public agencies, contributing to the sustainable development of aquaculture.

Upon completion of the program, graduates of the Doctorate in Aquaculture are expected to acquire the following knowledge, skills and attitudes:
1.- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of aquaculture production systems, being able to carry out critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas in the discipline.
2.- Conceive, design and execute an original scientific investigation in aquaculture autonomously and with ethical and scientific integrity, publishing the results of their investigations in scientific journals of the specialty and / or protecting the industrial property of the knowledge or innovation generated in some competent body.
3.- Communicate the scientific or technological knowledge of the discipline to the productive sector and society as a whole, to promote the advancement of the national and international aquaculture sector

Lines of investigation

The current lines of research are the product of an important process to improve the program, starting with the last accreditation. Thus, the restructuring indicated by the peer evaluators and the Area Committee in the accreditation agreement was considered. Likewise, in the last 5 years, the Doctorate in Aquaculture has worked on the renovation of its academic staff, which has made it possible to establish and consolidate the following lines of research:
1.- Genetics and Biotechnology applied to Aquaculture
2.- Physiology and Nutrition applied to Aquaculture
3.- Pathology and Immunology applied to Aquaculture
4.- Aquaculture Sustainability
