• Rector of the Usach, Juan Manuel Zolezzi will lead the entity during the period 2011-2013.
In today's plenary session, the Council of Rectors elected as the new Executive Vice President the current rector of the University of Santiago, Juan Manuel Zolezzi, and the rector of the University of Concepción, Sergio Lavanchy, as alternate Vice President.
In this way, the new Executive Committee of the Council of Rectors will be constituted by the new executive vice president, the alternate vice president, the rector of the Universidad del Bío-Bío, Héctor Gaete, the rector of the University of Tarapacá, Emilio Rodríguez, the rector from the Austral University, Víctor Cubillos and the rector of the Catholic University, Ignacio Sánchez. To them will be added whoever is chosen as the new president of the Consortium of State Universities instead of the rector Zolezzi.
The election of a new Executive Vice President is carried out every two years according to the statutes of the Council of Rectors and, therefore, the new Executive Committee will head the entity in the period 2011-2013.
The rector of the University of Chile, Víctor Pérez, leaves his post after leading the Council of Rectors for two consecutive periods, according to the maximum period established by the regulations.
“I assume this responsibility with great enthusiasm and honor. I hope to generate a contribution for Chilean public education and represent in the best way the interests of the 25 traditional universities in the country ”, highlighted the new Executive Vice President of Cruch.
"The role that the Council of Rectors has had in this Education Reform has been key and my commitment is to continue working firmly so that it is finally realized according to the needs that the country has to achieve a quality education and world level" .
